Lisa Schipper
Dr. Schipper, a new member of the CIAT Board of Trustees, has both Swedish and U.S. nationalities. Focusing her studies on climate change, she obtained her B.Sc. from Brown University, USA, and her Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of East Anglia, UK. In 2008, she joined the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) in Bangkok, Thailand, and is now based at SEI’s US Center in Davis, California, as Senior Scientist to conduct research on community adaptation to climate change.
Previously, Dr. Schipper worked for the Global Change SysTem for Analysis, Research, and Training (START) in Bangkok, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Sri Lanka, and has consulted for various UN agencies, NGOs, and research institutes. A social scientist, she teaches, trains, speaks, and writes about climate change, emphasizing adaptation, risk reduction, and the role of culture. She is Associate Editor of the journal Climate and Development (published by EarthScan). She is member of several entities that specialize in climate change and is participating as author of chapters of two upcoming IPCC assessment reports (Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation and the Fifth Assessment Report).
Dr. Schipper has traveled widely and has lived in Europe, USA, Asia, Botswana, and El Salvador, and speaks several languages. |
