Wanda Collins

Dr. Wanda Collins, a U.S. citizen, obtained a double Ph.D. in Plant Pathology and Genetics at the North Carolina State University.
She is currently Director of the Plant Sciences Institute of USDA, Beltsville, MD, USA, but has considerable experience in the international scene. In 1995, she joined the Environmentally Sustainable Development, Agricultural Research, and Extension Unit (ESDAR) at the World Bank. She then joined the International Potato Center (CIP) as that Center's Deputy Director General of Research. While at CIP she oversaw their global research program on potatoes, sweetpotatoes, and Andean root and tuber crops, led the Global Initiative on Late Blight (GILB), and was instrumental in developing CIP's VITAA (Vitamin A for Africa) regional program as well as Urban Harvest, CGIAR the system-wide program on urban horticulture.
Throughout her professional life she obtained broad administrative experience, acting in the capacity of board chair, board member and committee member for several institutions, including IPGRI (now Bioversity International), INIBAP, and various U.S. institutions. She served two terms as Chair of the Committee of Board Chairs for the CGIAR. Previously, she was Associate Professor and Professor at the Department of Horticultural Science at the North Carolina State University, and has also performed as Consultant, Technical Advisor, and Scientific Liaison Officer, with experience in Latin America and the Caribbean, and Nigeria. |
