  • The 2009 Scopus Colombia Award, granted by Elsevier with the support of Colciencias, to Myriam Cristina Duque for the number of research papers she has published in the areas of agriculture and biological sciences over the last 5 years and the numerous times these have been cited.

  • Best Poster Award granted to Aracely Castro, on behalf of CIAT and its partners, at the 2009 World Water Week, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), for the presentation of the poster "Improving the efficiency of rain water use on hillsides in the sub-humid tropics: agricultural & environmental benefits of Quesungual system".

  • 2008 National Scientific Merit Award, granted by the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science (ACAC) to Hernán Ceballos and his Cassava Improvement team, in recognition of the research they have carried out to identify cassava varieties with enhanced nutritional qualities and increased productivity for Colombia's industrial sector.

  • 2007 Distinguished Researcher Award, granted by the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation to Reinhardt Howeler, Watana Watananonta, and Tran Ngoc Ngoan, for the development and adoption of effective soil conservation practices in cassava fields in Asia.

  • Best Undergraduate Thesis Award, granted by the Universidad del Quindío (Colombia) to Luz Adriana Mesa and Víctor Hugo Triviño (undergraduate thesis supervised by Elizabeth Alvarez).

  • 2009 IFAR Professional Development Grant, awarded to Jeremiah Mosioma Okeyo to further his research on understanding the effect of long-term conservation tillage (i.e., reduced or no tillage) on soil physical properties under experimental conditions in the subhumid tropics.
