| The RAD Project helps strengthen the capacity of governmental (GOs) and
nongovernmental (NGOs) organizations, including organizations of rural producers, to
establish and support small rural producers, to establish and support small rural
agroenterprises that are viable market oriented, and thus able to generate larger and more
stable incomes. These groups, as will urban dwellers, will benefit from the production
of improved products for the consumer and greater protection of natural resources.
Their Experiences
In 1999, important research was carried out in the North Coast Region of Colombia. The
project was entitled Análisis de un Enfoque Integrado de Investigación y Desarrollo
en Yuca y su Contribución al Alivio de la Pobreza [An analysis of an Integrated
Approach to Cassava Research and Development and Its Contribution to the Alleviation of
Poverty].
In the Spanish-lenguage videos (also available in Winzip) listed below, two cassava farmers from the Colombian
Departament of Sucre describe how they received short-term benefits from a new marketing
alternative - the cassava-drying agroindustry - that resulted from this research.
