Recognitions
During the course of executing the NF Project, this new approach
to technology development and dissemination demonstrated that it could significantly
contribute to improving the livelihood of some of the poorest farmers while conserving a
country’s soil and water resources. In recognition, honors were received from
different Governments:
The Honorable Vice-Minister of Agriculture of Vietnam, Dr.
Nguyen Gioi, in the name of the Vietnamese Government, presented Dr. Reinhardt Howeler,
Project Coordinator, and Dr. Kazuo Kawano, former cassava breeder and current advisor to
the Project, with a Medal of Honor in a special ceremony on 4 March 1997, in Ho Chi Minh
City.
- In a special ceremony held on 30 September 1998, in Beijing, the Vice Premier of the
State Council, Mr. Qian Qichen, in the name of the Chinese Government, presented Dr.
Reinhardt Howeler with the Friendship Award for Foreign Experts, in recognition of his
contribution to Chinese agriculture.
