IMARK is an e-learning initiative in agricultural information
management that was developed by FAO
and its partner organizations.
IMARK modules are being developed by a wide range of experts
and are based on the use of appropriate and cost-effective
technologies. The modules are delivered in an interactive
self-paced learning environment, using dynamic screens and
illustrated step-by-step instructions and exercises. The modules
provide learners with immediate access to customized help,
search and glossary facilities, as well as cases studies which
demonstrate real life applications of the concepts and procedures
being taught.
IMARK now has over 30 partners and collaborating institutions
since its inception in 2001, and its activities are coordinated
through a Steering Group whose members are: the Association
for Progressive Communications (APC),
FAO, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF),
Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA),
the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche
agronomique pour le développement (Cirad),
the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation
ACP-EU (CTA)
and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO).
CIAT collaborated with FAO in adapting two of the IMARK modules
for Spanish-speaking audiences. These were Management of Electronic
Documents and Digitization and Digital Libraries. Subject
expertise in information management was crucial in employing
the correct and most commonly used technical terms.
In addition, the literature was reviewed in detail to find
and select existing Spanish-language articles that would provide
complementary reading for the lessons. Information managers
from the Biblioteca
Conmemorativa Orton IICA / CATIE provided additional feedback
on the final adaptation and translation.
