About Innovation Briefs

Innovation is the process by which people attempt to develop a novel idea or technology and bring it into widespread use.

To enable innovation, we need to understand how it happens. An innovation brief is a narrative that describes and explains the key events in an innovation process.

Innovation briefs allow the people involved to reflect on what they did, and learn. If several innovation briefs are recorded using a common framework then we can look for similarities and differences and discover general principles.

This helps avoid repeating mistakes and helps us identify and use what works. Short innovation histories or "Briefs" use a common framework for a narrative that summarizes key elements involved in an innovation process. It is intended to be read by a broad public and enhance the visibility of work-in-progress. Briefs may be promising histories that merit further investigation.
