The Analytical Services Laboratory (ASL) is based at CIAT, for which it is a research support section. It conducts analyses for agricultural purposes, specializing in the analyses of soils and plant tissues, and in determining nutritional parameters in forages, feed, and food. As well as serving CIAT, it also serves other research entities in Colombia and Latin America.

The Laboratory is equipped with modern manual and automatic equipment, and has a highly qualified team who uses standard analytical methods that are accredited nationally and internationally. Analysis quality is permanently evaluated by using both internal (standard samples, chemical reagents) and external controls (national and international standards), according to the Colombian Soil Science Society and WEPAL (Wageningen Evaluating Programmes for Analytical Laboratories), Netherlands.

In addition to the methods described in the section Analytical Methods (Soil Chemistry), the Laboratory can adapt and offer other types of soil, plant, and water analyses.
