Evaluating Capacity Development, in Spanish

CIAT's Cassava Improvement Project, under the leadership of Hernán Ceballos, was recipient of the 2008 National Scientific Merit Award in recognition of the technological innovations it has implemented and the successful results obtained.

The award was granted by the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science (ACAC, its Spanish acronym) in a ceremony held on 26 November 2008. This Association formalized the award in 1990 to distinguish individuals and institutions that stand out regarding their scientific contributions to Colombia.

In the case of CIAT, the contributions made by the Cassava Improvement team not only to the Center's host country Colombia but also to other tropical countries made it worthy of this distinction. The research carried out by this group has allowed the identification of cassava varieties with enhanced nutritional qualities and increased productivity, which represents an industrial advancement for the region.
