CIAT participates in global debate on gender issues

Dr. Salvatore Ceccarelli visits CIAT

The LAC Division and the PRGA Program hosted Dr. Salvatore Ceccarelli, a leading Barley Breeder at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) in Aleppo, Syria. He has done extensive work in participatory plant breeding and participatory varietal selection (PPB/PVS) worldwide. During his visit, Dr. Ceccarelli, along with CIAT researchers, spearheaded a new participatory and gender strategy that would be grounded at CIAT HQ. He also presented a seminar on "Participatory Plant Breeding, Biodiversity, Genetic Resources, Gender and Climate Changes" and spent time at the National University in Palmira interacting with graduate students and professors.
