| Nine postgraduate courses will be conducted at CIAT in the
second semester of 2004 for Colombian professionals working
with national institutions of research, development, and education.
The Colombian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
(MADR, its Spanish acronym) is sponsoring these courses within
the framework of the Agreement on Technical and Scientific
Cooperation signed with the Center. The courses aim to bring
participants up to date in specific areas relating to common
beans, rice, cassava, tropical forages, rural innovation,
soils, fruits, and plant health risks.
Registration is made only through interested institutions,
and the courses are free for the successful candidates.
The courseseach with a maximum of 30 participantswill
be offered at CIAT's headquarters in Palmira. The teaching
methodology combines conferences; practice in the field, laboratory,
and greenhouse; discussion groups; round tables; and presentations
by participants.
Most of the instructors will be CIAT scientific staff, but
will also include lecturers of recognized international status.
The first coursefor which participants have already
been selectedis on legume flours for animal feed. It
began last week on 13 September.
